Our Founder
Tendernest was founded by Shahnaz Scully, an educator, wellbeing practitioner, and women’s group facilitator with over 30 years of experience in early years education, family support, and holistic wellness.
Shahnaz began her career as a nursery nurse and went on to earn a BA (Hons) in Childhood Studies, Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS), and a PGCE in Adult Education. She has taught on Early Childhood degree programmes and held leadership roles across nursery schools, children’s centres, and the Sure Start initiative in West London. Her work has supported refugee families and marginalised communities, with a strong focus on inclusive, culturally aware practice.
After relocating to West Wales with her two children, Shahnaz has spent over 15 years working in the civil service, where she currently holds a regulatory role in early years education. She brings extensive expertise in safeguarding, quality assurance, and compliance, with in-depth knowledge of the Childcare Act and early years statutory frameworks.
Alongside her professional journey, Shahnaz is a certified coach, 250-hour yoga and meditation teacher, and women’s circle facilitator. She is also completing her counselling training part-time, with a focus on Adlerian therapy, and is passionate about integrating therapeutic, somatic, and nature-based approaches into her work.
TenderNest was born from Shahnaz’s own experience of grief, trauma, and the lasting impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). It is the culmination of her personal and professional journey—a nurturing community where women, children, and families can heal, grow, and reclaim their sense of self through connection, creativity, and care.
